Upper Playground / Fifty24SF is a collective of like minds. The roots emerged somewhere from a gallery space in San Francisco named ‘FIFTY24SF’. Stash, The London Police, David Choe, Andy Jenkins, Sam Flores, Bigfoot and Ricky Powell are constant collaborators with the gallery, infecting all minds with their art.

Sam Flores was born in 1975, immersed in the stark beauty of the New Mexico desert. In 1995, he moved to San Francisco seeking life as a working artist and the bohemian lifestyles of the Bay Area. Involved in the Street cultures of skateboarding and graffiti these roots helped him land freelance gigs doing graphics for Adrenalin skateboards and Civilian clothing. His paintings touch themes of ‘Natural Beauty’, which is in obvious Contrast to his life in the urban landscape. He credits Michael Parkes and Derek Hess as influences. His Figures tend what to be somewhat anonymous, even masked in some instances, yet still full of personality and emotion. He effortlessly combines broad fields of colour and finely rendered detail, creating paintings that are engaged on many levels. “Sam is a great painter, plain and simple. His talent will continue to be a source of inspiration for man and artists like myself, and undoubtedly his work will inspire future generations” Mike ‘Giant’ Lesage.

David Choe hops around the globe destroying it’s crust, leaving his mark behind everywhere he goes. What he enjoys most is creating art for people who really don’t care about art, because David hates most art and artists. He has self-published two highly acclaimed journal / scrapbook / novellas – Bruised Fruit and Slow Jams. His murals can be found on train lines across America to the Cuchi Tunnels of Vietnam.

The images here feature the work and adverts of Upper Playground and it's associated companies Fifty24Sf, 12 Grain, Rick Powell - street photographer. You'll find the t-shirts on the urban shop which feature designs from London Police, Mr Jago, Sam Flores and David Choe.
